Elsa's Kopje (meaning 'small hill') is hidden amongst this wilderness.9 custom built cottages are nestled on the hill, providing you with the ultimate view across a stretch of beautiful African landscape, under the vastness of an open African sky. Accommodation at Elsa's Kopje:

Elsa's kopje Mail LodgeThe accommodation at Else's Kopje is varied, providing you with 9 cottages. 6 cottages have king sized beds and 2 have twin beds. Each cottage has a private bathroom with showers or baths made of stone, flush toilets and double basins. The camp is interconnects with paved paths that are lit by lamps at night, interweaving all the features of the camp together nicely. There is an open bar, lounge and a dining room.

The view from the pool searches across the plains, and provides you with the perfect place to have a sun downer and look out over the plains abundant with wildlife, and listen to the sounds of the bush as the night sets in on another African day.

Elsa's Kopje  - LoungeOne double cottage is set apart from the others. This one is ideal for families with children or a group.

It has a double bedroom and a twin bedroom, both with bathrooms en-suite. Elsa's Private House is set apart from the rest of the lodge, in a reclusive part of the hill-top.

The house consists of two double bedrooms with an en suite bathroom with a large bathtub. There is a spacious twin room, with en-suite bathroom. Elsa's House has its own private swimming pool.

Elsa's Kopje  - LoungeClients are well looked after by a highly trained, unobtrusive team of staff and a skilled host who manages the lodge. Each cottage is attended by a butler who also waits on the guests at mealtimes.

The food is traditional Northern Italian cuisine blended with a selection of local and international dishes, fresh baked bread, crisp salads and locally grown vegetables

Your game viewing is likely to include herds of buffalo, Elsa's Kopje Room Loungeoryx, gerenuk, elephant, Grevy zebra, reticulated giraffe, the elusive Lesser Kudu, leopard, cheetah and hyena. Bush babies and hyrax live on Mughwango Hill and close by Elsa's descendents hunt the shy but plentiful plains game.

This area is renowned for its elephant herds and fantastic flora and scenery. April 2003 - Awarded the inaugural Bronze Eco tourism rating, the first ever scheme of its kind in Africa, by The Ecotourism Society of Kenya, as recognition for their sustainable conservation and eco-friendly business practices.

Elsa's Kopje PoolThis private hideaway is perched on top of Mugwongo Hill, site of George Adamson's first camp. This park is renowned for its low rainfall, yet at the same time thirteen rivers and numerous streams run off the nearby mountains to provide a landscape of arid land laced with ribbons of green.

From your private cottage, placed well away from your neighbour, you will enjoy a 270-degree view of the surrounding park with its scattered kopjes and mysterious baobab trees.

The open plan rooms are individually designed, incorporating the rocks into the structure. Traditional African-made furniture, bright ikat fabrics and whitewashed walls are simple yet superbly comfortable and stylishly effective. Two rooms have monolithic baths which would be at home in the most modern of style magazines, yet fit perfectly with the landscape which you can see from them.

On game drives and guided nature walks, guests of Elsa's Kopje virtually have the Park to themselves. You may also like to try your hand at fishing or take the plunge and raft the nearby Tana River.

Meru National Park is a vast, arid area, with undulating plains freckled with Doum Palms and Baobab trees and lush vegetation along 13 rivers that meander through the park. Guests see a more diverse range of species than in any other Park or Reserve. Regular sightings include: Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk, Elephant, Grevy Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Lesser Kudu, Grant's Gazelle, Leopard, Lion, Cheetah, Rhino and the rare, elusive Greater Kudu. Meru is also famous for its bird life, including riverine and forest species as well as the arid dry country species.

There is much to see and do at Elsa's Kopje: game drives in open-sided safari Land Rovers, driven by knowledgeable driver-guides, guided walks are led by a Professional Safari Guide and accompanied by a Ranger. Other attractions include bush breakfasts and sundowners and visits to the Tharaka tribal village on the Southern Boundary of the Park.

Dear Davies We have finally recovered completely from our wonderful trip! Ranger did a fabulous job, as you already know. Our guide was Bashir, and he was wonderful. Very professional, polite, well spoken and extremely knowledgeable! We did not understand that we were going to have an entire campsite to ourselves the first two days. It was a wonderful park and an wonderful experience. We were not crazy about Lake Manyara, but we loved the crater and the plains! The tented safari is the only way to go.
