With panoramic views across the Great Rift Valley & the shimmering waters of Lake Naivasha lies Kiangazi House. Set amongst beautiful lush gardens & tended lawns, this 5 bedroom homestead has truly breathtaking views of unspoilt Africa. It is ironic that “Kiangazi” is the Swahili word meaning “hot and dry season”.

Kiangazi House lies in the Oserian Wildlife Corridor connecting the lake shore & environs with Hells Gate National Park & Maasailand beyond. Adjacent to the corridor is the 20,000 acre Oserian Wildlife Sanctuary complete with a fascinating diversity of Wildlife including Rhino, Leopard, Cheetah, Grevy Zebra, Giraffe, Greater Kudu & Hyena. Many smaller species of antelope like Dik Dik, Grey Duiker & Stienbok are found in the grassy bush-land bordering the imposing Mau escarpment. Sweeping views from the verandah have changed little from the bygone days of the early pioneers who settled in this area at the turn of the century.

Below the House, guests can explore the lake shore with its masses of water birds including Pelicans & Flamingos as well as game drive in the yellow barked acacia forests looking for leopards seeking out their wary antelope prey. With inviting waterholes below the main house it’s possible to view a procession of thirsty big game at close quarters.

Built in the old traditional style of local stone & timber, Kiangazi House has three double ensuite bedrooms within the main house & two further double ensuite bedrooms just beyond the swimming pool. Homestead amenities including a sitting room, dining room, bar & library are found within the house & guests can also play tennis or relax by the pool.

Trained chefs prepare international cuisine & appetizing breakfasts & lunches are often taken outside in the lush gardens or on the expansive verandah.

With so much space & privacy, time here moves slowly & one can absorb oneself without disturbance or bumping into other people. The hosts at the house can organize for guests to take game drives & sundowners in the Oserian Wildlife Sanctuary and also drive or walk along the lakeshore.

Kiangazi is easily accessible from Nairobi by road in about 1 and half hours along the Nairobi – Nakuru highway.

Kiangazi has its own airstrip nearby and charter flights from Nairobi take around 20 minutes

Our party of 6 (2 from USA & 4 from Lithuania) returned from a week's safari on Saturday August 11, 2007 - our first time in Africa and first safari. Our first exposure was the game drive after our guide Robert Kutu and Jack Wanjala picked us up at the Amboseli airstrip. We were astounded at the numbers of animals and birds that we saw that first day. This was followed by a night drive that evening. The following day was a 2-hour walk with Mike, followed by an afternoon visit to the Maasai village, sundowner and another night drive. Our entire experience, including the accommodations at the camp, was truly memorable, including the campfire and beautiful starry sky (and the early morning drive to the airstrip wrapped in ponchos against the morn...
